Thomas R. Ruthman of West Chester, OH, passed away at the age of 89 on November 16, 2022 following a stroke.
He is survived by his loving wife of 45 years, Audrey (née Schumaker), siblings Kay Mazza, Jimmy Ruthman, and Anita Gadbury, son Thomas G. Ruthman (Anjou), daughters Julia Angeles (Joey) and Theresa Schneider (Eric), all of Springboro, OH, as well as eleven beloved grandchildren, Thomas Z. Ruthman, William Ruthman, Andrew Angeles, Gabriel Angeles, John Paul Angeles, Dominic Angeles, Mary Angeles, Maria Schneider, Anna Schneider, Joseph Schneider and Catherine Schneider. He was preceded in death by his parents, Alois and Catherine Ruthman, and brother Jerome Ruthman.
Born into the family business, Gusher Pumps, Tom spent his entire career in the pump industry, eventually growing the company into a multi-national corporation, Ruthman Companies. He remained active as a company board member until the time of his death. He also established the Ruthman Farms in northwest Ohio, growing corn, soybean and wheat, and expanding into solar and wind power in recent years.
An avid philatelist (stamp collector), train enthusiast and philanthropist, Tom enjoyed spending time with his family and giving generously of his time and money to the charitable causes in which he believed deeply. As a friend of Bill for 48 years, he was passionate about helping others find a design for living that really works.
The family will receive visitors at Gilligan Funeral Home (Kenwood, OH), on Tuesday, November 22 from 5-7 pm. Funeral Mass will be held at the Cathedral Basilica of Saint Peter in Chains (Cincinnati, OH) at 9:30 am Wednesday, November 23, followed by burial at 2:30 pm at Saint Anthony of Padua Cemetery in Columbus Grove, OH. A reception at Saint Anthony of Padua Catholic Church will follow the graveside service.
