Obituary

Robert Elliott Lewis "Bob", of Cincinnati (Madeira), passed away June 18, 2023 at Bethesda North Hospital following a short illness. Bob was born January 5, 1937 to George E. and Ada Bell Lewis (Kennedy) in Mayfield, Kentucky. Known as Buddy Lewis on the gridiron, he was a prolific high school football player at Mayfield High School in western Kentucky. He was a two time All State guard, first team Scholastic All American 1955 and his senior year was the Kentucky Sun-Democrat State player of the year. Offered scholarships from Illinois, Michigan and Ole Miss he chose Illinois where he played with the likes of Ray Nitschke and Ron Butkus. Bob graduated from Illinois with a BS in Business in 1959. Following graduation, he completed basic training in the Marine Corps and served in the USMC Reserves.

Upon discharge from the USMC he moved to California and found an accounting job at Shell Oil Company. There he met his future wife Coni and they married in 1960. Following Shell Oil Company Bob earned his teaching degree from Long Beach State College and subsequently a job teaching business at Pacifica High School in Garden Grove, CA. Teaching would lead to his ultimate profession at Southwestern Publishing Company where he worked as a sales representative and advertising manager. In 1972 Bob and Coni along with sons Mark and Paul moved with South-Western to Cincinnati (Madeira), Ohio.  These would be good years for Bob working at South-Western Publishing and Roderick St. Johns fine apparel store in the old Kenwood Mall and watching sons Mark and Paul play sports at Madeira High School.

Following retirement from South-Western Bob continued teaching. He taught international studies at NKU, ESL corporate executives from P&G and Toyota and accounting at Raymond Walters. He loved to write and in his athletic years he loved to ski and play golf.

He was preceded in death by his father and mother. He is survived by his sons, Mark A. Lewis, Mariemont, OH and Paul A. Lewis, Houston, TX, their mother, Coni Dandrew Lewis, Madeira, OH daughters-in-law Chrissy and Fay, a sister, Martha Lewis Miller (Gene), Louisville, KY, five grandchildren and a niece.
