Michael D. Rauen

Michael “Mike” Rauen, age 69, died Wednesday August 4th, after a courageous year-long battle with cancer, at home surrounded by his family. Mike was the devoted husband of 48 years to Martha “Marty” Derrick Rauen and proud father of four wonderful children and their spouses; Jon and Stacy Rauen of New York, Chris Rauen and Emily O’Brien of Berkeley California, Greg and Shelby Rauen of Chagrin Falls Ohio and Carolyn and Marshall Remmele of Anderson Township. Mike’s favorite thing was to spend time with his children and nine grandchildren: Jack, Will, Stella, Derrick, Porter, Dean, Julia, Elizabeth and Alice.

Mike was always selfless; putting others, especially his family, above all else. What made him happiest was spending time with his wife, Marty, who he adored every moment of their 50 years together. They loved beach vacations; walking in the sand, relaxing with a book, and watching sunsets after cocktails. He was his children’s biggest fan at countless swim meets, soccer games, band competitions, and cross country meets throughout the years. He cherished annual family vacations in Leland at the lake including this July with all the children and grandchildren. Mike was active at his church, St. John Fisher in Newtown, supporting and volunteering for social action causes and serving on parish council.

Preceded in death by his beloved parents, Eleanor and Bill, Mike is survived by his brother Kevin (Kathy) Rauen of Highland Park Illinois and sister Eleanor Hardy Schott (the late Joe) of Lake Panasoffkee Florida, as well as many loving sisters-in-law and brothers-in-law and numerous nieces and nephews.
