Mary Anne Phalen, who dedicated herself to a lifetime of service to her family and the communities of Pleasant Ridge & Nativity, passed away on August 25, 2021 of heart complications. Many cousins, second cousins, aunts, and uncles, nieces, and nephews enjoyed many lively Fourth of July picnics, weddings, and family gatherings with her. She also could be relied upon in moments of crisis when anyone, family or stranger, was in need of advice or practical know-how. As a nurse, volunteer, and citizen, she took on many projects including leading a campaign with her friend Diane Roketenetz to make the Pleasant Ridge library accessible for all. Mary Anne was one of the writers of the charter to Kennedy Heights Montessori, which helped integrate preschool classes with a co-op system relying on parent volunteers.
Visitation will be at the Church of the Nativity of Our Lord in Pleasant Ridge on 8/28/21 starting at 9:30 a.m. Mass at 10:30 and burial to follow at Gate of Heaven approximately 12:30.
