Marianne Blount Obituary

Marianne (Ginochio) Blount, age 81, passed away peacefully on September 13. She was born on February 11, 1941 in Oakland, CA and grew up in nearby San Leandro. She was a proud graduate of San Leandro High School. In 1965, she married Jay Nels Blount. While living in Sacramento and New Jersey, they had two children. In 1972, Marianne and Jay settled in Modesto, CA, where they would be for almost 30 years. They lived on Bristol Lane surrounded by the greatest neighbors in the world. Marianne enjoyed working in the yard, with morning waterings of her Gardenias and Impatiens, often accompanied by her beloved dog Daisy and cat Agnes, wearing her Birkenstocks and enjoying a cigarette or two in the process. She worked as a secretary and clerk for the local school district (Sylvan) for many years. She made the best Halloween costumes, asking only for her children’s Heath bars in return. Marianne loved to go to the movies and for years hosted Oscar Awards parties.

In 2001, to be closer to her children and grandchildren, she and Jay moved to Cincinnati, OH. There, she enjoyed spending time with her grandchildren (who knew her as “Nana”) and working with her daughter at Truepoint Wealth Counsel. She made frequent trips to Pittsburgh, PA to visit her son and his family, always with a supply of homemade lasagna and snickerdoodles. Because her children attended Notre Dame, she was a huge fan of the Fighting Irish. Even when her dementia was at its worst, she insisted on wearing her ND sweatshirts.

Marianne is survived by her daughter Janel Carroll, son and daughter-in-law Jay Travis Blount and Kate English and her four grandchildren, who she absolutely adored: Jay Carroll, Mary Carroll, John Blount and Michael Blount. She will be missed by her many friends, former co-workers and family.
