Eileen Beckman (nee Grathwohl) passed away on Sunday March 19 at the age of 87. Eileen was preceded in death by Mark, her husband of 63 years. Eileen was loving mother of Barbara Beckman, Stephen (Wendy) Beckman, Mary Kay (Bernie) Calonge, Philip (Barb) Beckman and Anne (Craig) Wrobel, and a loving sister of Ruth (Bill) Anderson. She is also survived by 9 grandchildren, 3 step-grandchildren and 10 great-grandchildren.
Eileen is a proud graduate of Ursuline Academy and graduated with a perfect 4.0 GPA from Xavier University after returning to school when her youngest child entered high school. Eileen proudly teamed with Mark for more than a decade running his pension administration firm. For many years she volunteered in the library at Nativity School in Pleasant Ridge where she, Mark, and all five of their children attended grade school. After their retirement, Eileen was at Mark’s side through many adventures, with travel and spending time with their children, grandchildren, and extended family being their favorites. Eileen and Mark were recognized by the Cincinnati Playhouse in the Park for attending more than 100 consecutive performances.
Eileen was a wife, mother, and friend to emulate. Eileen set a tremendous example of determination, facing any obstacle in her path quietly and without complaint. She attributed her strength to her unshakeable faith in God and to having come from “tough German peasant stock.”
Visitation will be on Saturday March 25, 2023 at Nativity Church, 5936 Ridge Ave., Cincinnati, OH 45213 from 9 am until 10:00 Mass of Christian Burial followed by burial at Gate of Heaven Cemetery.
