Edmonde DeGreg Obituary

Edmonde Vincent DeGreg (11/21/1923-5/11/2021) died peacefully at his home at the age of 97. He is survived by his wife of 71 years, Paula DeGreg (nee Rasulo). He was preceded in death by his parents Pietro and Josephine DeGregorio, who both immigrated as children from southern Italy to Yonkers, New York. Also predeceased by his brothers Nicholas, Stanley and Alfred.

He is survived by his children Edmonde (Grace) DeGregorio, Philip (Carol) DeGreg, and JoAnne (David Dukart) DeGreg. Grandfather of Anthony and Joseph (Kristina) DeGregorio, Nicole (Fordking “Marlon” Rustand Paulino) DeGreg, Julia (Ben) Holton, Daniel (Carly) Dukart, Jeremy, Rachel, Madelyn and Nora Dukart, and great-grandfather to Giuliana, Emilia, Sofia, Cora, Louisa and Claire.

Ed served in the US Army Air Force during World War II, working as an air traffic controller, and subsequently graduated from New York University. He married Paula in August of 1949. His job as a sales representative with RCA took them to Cincinnati, and he spent his entire career forging relationships and friendships with his customers throughout Ohio, West Virginia and Kentucky. During these years, he and Paula were fortunate to take numerous company sponsored trips to many wonderful locales (including Hong Kong, Israel, Portugal, Italy and London) where they embraced their role as hosts for their customers.

In retirement, Ed and Paula enjoyed annual vacations to Longboat Key, Florida, often with their children and grandchildren, who all have fond memories of Ed’s “manatee float”, and his appreciation of gin and tonics on the beach at sunset.

He enjoyed good Italian food and wine, including sfogliatelle and other pastries from Yonkers.

Ed always credited his wife for her proficiency in raising their children during his years on the road, while underplaying his own nurturing influence. He was unfailingly kind, patient, and very supportive of his children, taking much pride in their accomplishments.

His family always came first.  Every family gathering started with lifting a glass of wine, and the toast “a la famiglia!”

A funeral mass will be celebrated on June 12 at 10:30 AM at St Vincent Ferrer Church in Kenwood, 7754 Montgomery Rd. Visitation will take place at 9:30 AM at the church.

Interment will take place at a later date at St Joseph’s Cemetery in Yonkers, New York.
