Daryth Stallone Obituary

Daryth Yvonne Erickson Stallone was born on January 21, 1936 in Minneapolis, Minnesota to William Oscar Erickson and Edna Lemming Erickson. She grew up in small mountain towns in the Colorado Rockies including Silverton, Leadville, Ouray and Telluride. She attended boarding school in Colorado Springs before enrolling at Goucher College at age 15 through a Ford Foundation Scholarship for gifted students. Daryth graduated from college in 1955 at 19 years of age with a BA in mathematics. In the fall of that year General Electric hired her as an engineering assistant at the jet engine manufacturing plant in Cincinnati where she worked for 5 years in "computations," or computer programming as it came to be called. It was at GE that Daryth met and married the man with whom she would happily spend the next 52 years, the late Michael Stallone.Daryth was a devoted mother to Dary and Cara Stallone inspiring in them a love of nature, culture, music, art and literature. As grandchildren began to arrive in 1996, Daryth bestowed that same love and attention to them, making every holiday and visit a special occasion. As a result, Daryth and Mike's four granddaughters have wonderful memories of summertime in Cincinnati and Christmas's and Easter's filled with special treats and activities. Daryth moved to Brevard County in 2019 to be closer to her family.Daryth was a powerhouse in the community both as a volunteer and leader. Serving as an officer in every organization to which she belonged was Daryth's joy. Twice she was named Outstanding Volunteer in the State of Ohio. She was a Brownie and Girl Scout leader, a member and officer (and 3 time President) of Kenwood Women's and Garden Clubs. As a member of the Ohio Federation of Women's Clubs, she served as District President and held every office at least once. Her beloved sorority, Delta Gamma, and its philanthropy Prevent Blindness benefited immensely from her leadership and energy. She was a local and national officer for DG, serving as Province Collegiate Chairman for over a decade and was a recipient of DG's prestigious Cable Award and Shield Awards for service to her sorority and the community. Daryth was President of the Cincinnati Alumni Panhellenic association for 2 years and was on the Board for seven. She was twice President of the Cincinnati Health Department Volunteers and was Director of Prevent Blindness Cincinnati, where she worked for 30 years doing vision and hearing screening at local schools and cataract screening for adults.Daryth leaves behind her daughters Dary and Cara, son-in-law Dr. Richard Gayles, and beloved grandchildren Daryth Jr, Gabrielle, Giana and Lauryn Gayles. Her loving nature, generosity, wisdom, grace and formidable wit will be missed by all who knew her.Family and friends will gather for a memorial service and burial at Gate of Heaven Cemetery in Cincinnati, Ohio on Friday April 23. In lieu of flowers, we ask that donations be made in Daryth's name to Prevent Blindness of Ohio or the Lewy Body Dementia Association (scroll down for direct donation links).
