William “Bill” Flynn Hemmerle passed away following a brief illness and hospital stay, surrounded by his family. He was 94.
Bill is survived by his beloved wife, Karen Hemmerle (Mier), his son Ryan Hemmerle, Ryan’s wife, Katie Hemmerle (Barthel), Bill’s five grandchildren, Jacob, Elijah, Ava, William, and Gabriel, his son, Brendan Hemmerle and his favorite daughter, Megan Hemmerle. He was preceded in death by his parents, Agnes May Hemmerle and William Hemmerle Jr.
Bill attended Purcell High School and proudly served his country as an Army medic in the Korean War, including service on the front lines. After returning home, he devoted himself to hard work and family life, including a long and faithful career with the United States Postal Service, where he worked for 37 years followed by 12 years as grounds keeper at Madeira City Schools.
Bill was an avid nature lover who enjoyed hunting, fishing, sailing and all things outdoors. He was also an accomplished artist and a self-taught musician. Music was his lifelong pleasure. He particularly enjoyed playing his harmonica around the campfire on family camping trips, the piano at family gatherings and his 5-string banjo provided his songs could be played in the key of “O”. He was an amateur magician who thrilled family members & friends alike with his tricks and gimmicks, making for fun entertainment.
Those who knew Bill will remember his warmth, strength, courage, humor, and the way he brought life and his unique personality to everyday moments. He will be deeply missed and lovingly remembered.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at All Saints Catholic Church (8939 Montgomery Road, Cincinnati, Ohio 45236) on Thursday, March 12, 2026 at 10:30 a.m., with a brief gathering beginning approximately 15 minutes before Mass. Following Mass, there will be a procession to Gate of Heaven Cemetery, where his ashes will be interred, with military honors.
Memorial contributions may be made in Bill’s honor to Hospice of Cincinnati and/or the K9s for Warriors Project.
