Obituary

Wade Atkinson a public relations professional since 1945 died of natural causes on Thursday February 8, 2007 at his home in Kenwood. Mr. Atkinson was born in Atlanta, GA May 24, 1923. He received his bachelor's degree in 1940 from Emory University in Atlanta at age 17. Soon after, he served in World War II in the Army as a war correspondent and cryptographer in New Guinea. After returning from the war he worked in New York in the Public Relations Industry and later moved to Dayton, Ohio to start his own firm. While in Dayton he met Virginia Von Sydow, owner of a local modeling agency. In 1957 they married in Cincinnati and resided in Indian Hill. In 1975, Mr. Atkinson earned his Masters of Business Administration from University of Cincinnati. Mr. Atkinson achieved a long standing accreditation from the Public Relations Society of America. During his career in the Tri-State area he managed public relations efforts for major local and regional companies such as Jordan Valve, Richards Industries, Frigidaire, Lau Blower and the Deltona Corporation. An active member in the Episcopal Church he worked with St. Barnabas Church since its early days with congregation meetings in Sycamore High School. Later the church built its own facility in Montgomery Ohio for which Wade then produced the weekly St. Barnabas Gazette for over 10 years. He has authored two books: 'Two Feet from the Third Rail' - a public relations autobiography and 'The Bastian of Decorum' - a fictional overview of life in 1940's high society in Atlanta. Mr. Atkinson is survived by his sons Wade Atkinson Jr, and Hague Atkinson along with daughter in-law, Melanie and grandchildren Victoria and Anastasia. Viewing will be held at St. Barnabas Episcopal Church, 10345 Montgomery Rd. on Tuesday, Feb 13 from 4p-6p. Funeral Service will follow immediately at 6p. Mr. Atkinson will be interned in Westview Cemetery in Atlanta GA on Friday, February 16.
