Virginia Amanda Welch, 89, died June 6, 2008 at the Samantha Wilson Care Center at Bayview, FL. She was born in Cincinnati, Ohio and resided in St. Augustine since 1975, moving there from Cincinnati. She was a homemaker and she was of the Catholic faith. In Cincinnati, Virginia briefly worked as a licensed beautician, was a member of the Firefighter's Women's Auxiliary and the St. Louise Society; she served every year as a polling judge at the election polls and was a volunteer at St. Lawrence Elementary School and the Sisters of Charity retirement facility. In St. Augustine, Virginia volunteered at the Tri-County Mental Health Day Treatment Facility, the Council on Aging, the Whitney Lab's coastal cleanups and helped register 3, 000 volunteers during the St. Johns County "Project SWING" to build the children's downtown park. She was preceded in death by her husband, Robert James Welch and by a daughter, Kathleen Brigid Welch. She is survived by four children, Maureen Margaret Welch, St. Augustine, Robert James Welch, Jr. and his wife, Nancy D'Aquila, Cincinnati, Timothy Austin Welch, Cincinnati, Thomas Kevin Welch and his wife, Mylette, Healdsburg, CA; grandchildren, Kathleen Fisher, Audry Welch, Brigid Welch, Lily Welch, Ruby and Diggory Williams; great-grandchildren, Fiona Rose Fisher, Cosmo Hahn, Eli and Bella Williams. Visitation will be held from 5 to 8 PM on Thursday, June 12 at the Gilligan-Siefke-Grueter Funeral Home, 3671 Warsaw Ave. Mass of Christian Burial will be at 10 AM on Friday at St. Lawrence Church, 3680 Warsaw Ave. Flowers are gratefully accepted or those wishing may make a contribution to the Seton High School Scholarship Fund in memory of Kathleen Welch, 3901 Glenway Ave., Cincinnati, Ohio 45205.
