Virginia Therese Poon, age 94, passed away peacefully on October 22, 2021 at her home in Indian Hill, OH surrounded by her husband James and all their children. Virginia's blessed life began on March 16, 1927 in southern China. In an effort to escape the violence of World War II and in search of a safer home, her family made a 2 1/2 year journey to the United States, eventually arriving in Hawaii in 1944. After high school in Hawaii she left for nursing school in San Francisco, CA where she met her husband James. They were married in 1950 and after stops that included St. Louis, Toledo, Boston, and Indianapolis, they settled in Cincinnati in 1959. Virginia was a firm but loving mother and protector of her family who taught her children the importance of hard work, education, family, and prayer. Her strong will and vital personality were evident to all that knew her. Virginia was preceded in death by her parents, Wah-Ding and Amy Thom; and sisters Catherine Look, Margaret Thom, and Beatrice Chun. Virginia is survived by her loving husband of 71 years, James Poon; daughters Christine Poon (Michael Tweedle), Liana Poon, Melanie Williamson (James), Jean Hogan (Robert), and Jeanette Caruso (James); sons Philip Poon (Alexandria) and Douglas Poon (Christine); 11 grandchildren, David, Stephen (Abby), Benjamin, Grant, Nicholas, Madison, Ethan, Matthew, Maxwell, Cara and Maria; sister Georginia Thom; and brother Kenneth Thom. Visitation, Mass, and burial will be for immediate family only per Virginia's wishes. In place of flowers, donations may be made to Hospice of Cincinnati or Saint John the Evangelist Catholic Church in Naples, FL.
