Vernon Murray, 80, went to be with the Lord Saturday, April 28, 2007 at 1:30 A.M. Vernon was born on November 24, 1926 in Manchester KY to the late William and Eunice (Hubbard) Murray. Vernon was a resident of Deer Park and worked as a pipe fitter for the Formica Co. in Cincinnati until he retired in 1989. He served our country and protected our freedom while serving in the United States Marine Corps during the Korean conflict. Vernon had a strong belief in God as his Savior. He was a member of the Maranatha Bible Church in Zanesville and a member of the Landmark Baptist Temple in Cincinnati where he served as deacon, was a Sunday school teacher for 40 years and participated in their bus ministry. Vernon was a devoted Bible reader and enjoyed reading westerns. Vernon is survived by his loving wife of 60 years, Leona (miller) Murray; a daughter Dianne (Ron) Elble of Zanesville; sisters Rose Metz of TX, Jean (Jay) Moore of London KY, Catherine (Arvis) Spencer of KY, grandchildren Eric and Ryan Elble and Amy (Sung) Elble-Odegaard; a host of nieces and nephews; and a special niece Joyce Spangler of Bethel, OH. He was preceded in death by his parents; brothers Theo and Arthur Murray and a sister, Naomi Fields. Calling hours will be on Thursday, May 3 from 10 A.M. until the Funeral Service at 12 Noon with Pastor Dale McCallister of Maranatha Bible Church officiating. Burial will follow in Rest Haven Memorial Park. In lieu of flowers the Murray family would like donations be made to Maranatha Bible Church, 2400 Chandlersville Rd., Zanesville, OH 43701.
