IN LOVING MEMORY OF
Thomas C.
Rink
May 26, 1945 – November 5, 2024
Thomas Collins Rink, 79, surrounded by his loving family, passed away on November 5, 2024.
He is survived by his devoted wife of 55 years, Alison (nee Whittaker); sons Collin (Lindsay) and Brian (Kathleen); grandchildren Morgan (Austin) Shive, Madeleine, Jack and Joseph; great grandchildren Miles and Ryan Shive; sisters Patricia and Ellen Rink and Nancy (Robert) Carter.
Tom will be remembered as a loving husband, father, grandfather, brother and friend. His life was marked by his unshakeable faith and profound integrity, which demonstrated his commitment to living with meaning and purpose.
Born and raised in Rock Island, IL, he attended the University of Notre Dame where he received a B.B.A. in Accounting and a Juris Doctor. While a student there he met Alison and, throughout their marriage, they rarely missed a Notre Dame Football broadcast. Tom proudly served in the US Marine Corps for 4 years, achieving the rank of Captain. While stationed at Headquarters Marine Corps, he earned his Master of Laws in Taxation at George Washington University.
Tom practiced law for 50 years, 40 of which were at Strauss Troy as Chair of its Tax Department. He served as Chair of the Tax Section of the Cincinnati Bar Association, the Southwestern Ohio Tax Institute, and was a member of the Board of the Cincinnati Estate Planning Council. He was selected by his peers for inclusion in "Best Lawyers in America" and as a "Super Lawyer". Mentoring young attorneys was an important aspect of his career.
Spending many years as a resident of Indian Hill, Tom served on Council from 1997 to 2007 and as Mayor from 2003 to 2007. He was Board Chair of Cincinnati Nature Center, President of the Cincinnati Athletic Club and a member of Leadership Cincinnati Class XVIII. Tom enjoyed being an active member of The Camargo Club for 48 years, serving on its Board of Governors for 6 years.
He was a true family man and an exemplary role model. He coached his sons in youth soccer and basketball and cherished family trips to Florida and Michigan. He was an avid golfer and passed on his love for the game to his sons. He also enjoyed skeet shooting, kayaking and reading.
Tom Rink was often described as "one of the nicest men you will ever meet," and this is his legacy that will forever remain with all who knew him.
