Susan Yin Urwin, age 63, of Madeira, Ohio passed away on February 22, 2026, at Bethesda North Hospital surrounded by her loving family, after a battle with lung disease.
Susan’s life story is one of resilience. She was born in Kien Svay, Cambodia on August 8, 1962. Her happy early childhood ended abruptly as her mother, father and sister were killed in the war in Cambodia. Susan, as sole survivor of her immediate family, immigrated to the USA under the care of foster parents. She forged her own success, learning the language, sometimes working three jobs, raising a family with her husband, as well as being a devoted caregiver to family and friends throughout her life. She was also a dedicated volunteer for Cambodian refugees with Red Cross.
She met and married her husband, Anthony (Tony) Urwin, in 1988 after he stopped to help her with a flat tire. They were married in an intimate ceremony in the company of family on Christmas Eve 1988 and remained happily married for 37 years, raising their family and residing in Madeira.
Susan dedicated her life to being of service to others. Whether it be caring for her family, friends or customers, she worked tirelessly to meet the needs of those who were lucky enough to know her. She was known for her bubbly personality, always being in style, and for her impeccable work ethic. She was a loyal employee of PNC bank for the last 16 years, as well as Starbucks for the last 12 years. She will be truly missed as a wife, mother, grandmother, sister-in-law and friend to so many.
Susan is survived by her husband Anthony Urwin; her children Amanda Wyneken, Andrew Urwin (Katie Bachman), and Yin Urwin; as well as grandchildren Reece and Zoey Wyneken and Everett Urwin; and mother Yann Svay. Preceding her in death are her foster father and mother Ray and Thelma Simonson, and father Suon Svay.
A visitation will be held at Gilligan Funeral Home, 8225 Montgomery Road, Cincinnati, Ohio, 45236 on Friday, February 27th from 4:00 pm - 7:00 pm and all who knew Susan are welcome to attend. A service will be held at the same location on Saturday, February 28th at 11:00 am, with a procession to Rest Haven Cemetery in Blue Ash immediately following.
For those wishing to make a donation, the family asks that donations be made to Gilligan Funeral Homes to defray funeral costs or to the American Red Cross in Susan’s name.
