Susan Elizabeth Deck Gorman Died peacefully, age 75, at Jewish Hospital Kenwood, in Hospice care. She served her life committed to helping and supporting others as a registered nurse and civic volunteer. Born in Mountain Lakes, New Jersey; a graduate from St. Luke's Nursing School in New York City, and earned a B.S. Degree from the University of Cincinnati College of Nursing. Stationed in Portland, Oregon, as a 1st Lt. at 337 Fighter Group Hospital USAF. She married her husband of 52 years, Judge Robert H. Gorman. Upon completion of military service, she resided with her husband in Wyoming, Ohio. She continued her career as a labor and delivery nurse for Jewish Hospital Clifton and St. Elizabeth's Hospital until 1972. She began service as an active volunteer worker; serving as Treasurer for various organizations: Wyoming City Schools Parent School Association, The Church of Ascension and Holy Trinity, Episcopal Church Women, Queen City Figure Skating Club, The League of Women Voters Ed Fund, and coordinated the flower children for the 1987 World Figure Skating Championships in Cincinnati. She was later employed by The League of Women Voters as an office manager, serving as an exceptionally organized, efficient, and loyal staff member. She was a strong advocate for women's voting rights and leadership. She was honored for exceptional volunteer service with recognition through The Ralph Churchill Award by The Queen City Figure Skating Club and The Martha Taft Service Award by The League of Women Voters. As a wife, She took pride actively supporting her husband's Democratic political campaigns for the Ohio state legislature and his judicial elections. She also enjoyed spending time with her daughter and granddaughters. She is survived by husband, Judge Robert H. Gorman; daughter, Mary Catherine (Katie) Gorman Munneke; son-in-law Matthew Munneke; granddaughters Taylor, Olivia, and Nadine; and brother Dr. Phil Bate. A celebration of her life will take place Saturday, September 5th, 2015; at The Episcopal Church of Ascension and Holy Trinity in Wyoming, Ohio. Reception/visitation 9:45 am., funeral 11:00 am., followed by an interment at Spring Grove Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be directed to: The League of Women Voters- 103 Wm.
