Obituary

Susan Thomas Glover died on August 18, 2003 at Bethesda North Hospital in Montgomery, Ohio after a brief illness. Daughter of Margaret Mehaffey Thomas and Dr. Lester C. Thomas, she was born in Rochester, Minnesota October 15, 1927 and grew up in Lima, Ohio. She was pre-deceased by her sister, Nancy Thomas Stokes. Sue is survived by her two children and three grandchildren. Her son, George Thomas Glover, resides in Cincinnati, Ohio with his wife Mona Elsass Glover and their children, Mark and Meredith. Her daughter, Lucy Glover Moore, resides in Chatham, Virginia with her husband Temple Charles Moore and their daughter, Megan. She was married to William H. Golver, Also of Lima, Ohio. Sue attended public schools in Lima, and graduated from Fassifern School For girls in 1945 and Bradford College in 1947. Sue was involved in many civic activities. She served as President of Lima's League of Women Voters and the Johnny Appleseed Girl Scout Council. In 1961, Sue was the first female elected to the Shawnee School Board. She served as President for 3 years, while elected for 2 consecutive terms. She also served as a member of several charitable and non-profit organizations in Lima, including the United Way, YWCA and as a volunteer Probation Officer for the Allen County Juvenile County court. While living in Puerto Vallarta, Mexico during the 1970s, Sue was a volunteer 5th and 6th grade teacher of English as a second language. She returned to Chicago, Illinois where she graduated from the International Tour Management Institute in 1984. Her 17 year career in the travel industry allowed her extensive domestic and international travel, including China, Europe, USSR and Africa. Sue relocated to Pine Knoll Shores, North Carolina in the late 1980s, moving to Hendersonville, North Carolina in 1991. She began her own business, "On Safari with Sue Glover", in 1994. She had the great pleasure of leading semi-annual, tailor-made trips to Kenya, Africa. Sue returned to Ohio in 2000, living in Cincinnati. In lieu of flowers, the family requests memorial donations be made to the congregation, often visited by Sue, of Gatunda Presbyterian Church in Nairobi, Kenya in Africa. These can be made payable to Dr. Lucy Moore, 2441 Callands Rd., Chatham, VA 24531. The funeral service is Thursday, August 21, 2003 at 10:00 a.m. in Christ Episcopal Church, 301 W. North St., Lima, Ohio. Interment will be in Woodlawn Cemetery.
