Stephen "Steve" J. Shemo, 85, passed away on January 21st, 2025. Born on July 27th, 1939 to the late Michael and Sophie Shemo (nee Tabatcher). Survived by his daughter, Sandra J. Whiting (Patrick), sister Barbara "Cookie" Shemo, sister-in-law Carol Shemo and many nieces/nephews and great nieces/great nephews. Preceded in death by his daughter, Sharon A. Shemo, his wife of over 46 years, Shirley A. Shemo (nee Glins) and his brother, Michael Shemo.
Originally from Glen Campbell, PA, he graduated from Purchase Line High School and attended Indiana University of PA. He received an Associate's Degree from Miller Draughon Business College in 1971 as a surveyor. He was drafted into the Army in 1963, spending time at Fort Hood and Fort Gordon. He was part of the 569th Engineer Dive Detachment and the HQ CO 809th Engineer Battalion and served in Vietnam/Thailand/Laos from 1963-1965. He worked at Pennsylvania State Department of Highways, Day & Zimmerman as a highline lineman and Punshon Engineering as a surveyor. His career took him to CDS Associates, Inc., as a Crew Chief/Chief Construction Inspector from which he retired in 2004. He was a member of the American Legion, the Mt. Lookout Civic Club and the Professional Land Surveyors of Ohio, Inc.
Interests have included: hunting, fishing, bowling, golfing, assistant soccer coach, camping, football, baseball, basketball, performing in the Hits and Mrs. variety show, poker night, playing slot machines at the casino, being a member of the Sycamore Senior Center/Sharonville Community Center and of St. Gertrude Parish, and sitting on the back patio enjoying nature.
Visitations will be held at Gilligan Funeral Home (8225 Montgomery Road, Cincinnati, Ohio 45236) on Friday, February 7th from 6-8pm and Saturday, February 8th from 9-10am. Mass will be held Saturday, February 8th at All Saints Catholic Church (8939 Montgomery Road, Cincinnati, Ohio 45236) at 10:30am. The Mass will be live-streamed HERE . Ceremony to follow Mass at Gate of Heaven Cemetery (11000 Montgomery Road, Cincinnati, OH 45249). Reception for family and close friends following the cemetery at De Sha's (11320 Montgomery Road, Cincinnati, Ohio 45249). In lieu of flowers, memorial donations can be made to the American Cancer Society .
