With great sadness, her family shares the news that Shirley Ann Planzer (nee Rudy) peacefully passed away with family members at her side in Hospice of Cincinnati, Blue Ash on July 15, 2024 after battling complications of a fall one month ago.  She was 95 years old.

Shirley is survived by her devoted husband of almost 74 years, Louis W. Planzer; her loving children, Beth A. Planzer Montanus (Phil) and William L. Planzer (Dee), and her beloved granddaughter Melissa N. Planzer, as well as nieces and a nephew.  She was preceded in death by her sisters and their husbands, Doris Mills (Edgar) and Jean Drach (Jack).

Shirley was born in Covington, KY in 1929, graduated from Holmes High School as a two-year member of The National Honor Society and was active in many school clubs and activities.  In addition, she worked as a volunteer Candy Striper at St. Elizabeth Hospital and also cared for her ill mother during her high school years.  Upon graduation in 1946, she worked at the Covington Board of Education and became a consummate homemaker and mother once she married her high school sweetheart in 1950.  Shirley loved her family and close friends, stray animals, keeping up with current events and news, her container garden and making a beautiful home in Cincinnati and Sanibel Island, FL.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Hospice of Cincinnati Blue Ash and The League of Animal Welfare .

Friends may visit with the family on Thursday July 25, 2024 at 5:30 pm. and join them for a brief memorial at 6:00 pm. at Gilligan Funeral Home located at 8225 Montgomery Rd., Cincinnati, OH 45236.
