Sherrin Kay Ashcraft

Sherrin Kay Ashcraft, 83, passed away on July 29, 2026, at The Kenwood Assisted Living facility in Cincinnati, Ohio from complications of Parkinson’s disease. She was a native of Louisville, Kentucky and lived in Glendale, Ohio with her husband, Raymond J. Knecht. She was proceeded in death by Ray, her husband of 18 years; her father, Roy L. Ashcraft and her mother Phyllis (Donohoe) Ashcraft; and her stepdaughter, Mary Katherine (Kitty) Knecht. She was the oldest of 11 children: Terrell (James) Hodge; Mary Jo (Dodie) Borho; R. Patrick (Mary) Ashcraft; Jaculin (Doug) Iler; Pamela (Peter) Delaney; Miriam Fairbanks; Anne Ashcraft; Michael (Sandy) Ashcraft; Timothy (Jane Lowe) Ashcraft; and Kim (Tim) Medley; 17 nieces and nephews; 15 great nieces and nephews; and one great, great niece.

Ray had three children, Kitty Knecht (deceased) and Raymond H. (Toby) Dye; Joseph R. Knecht and Anne Chipman; Carolyn E. (Carrie) Knecht; two grandchildren, Amanda Knecht Dye, & husband Rodolfo Sanchez de Sarracino, and their son, Niccolo (Nico) Dye de Sarracino and Caitlyn (Katy) Knecht Dye, and partner James Patrick Murphy.

Sherrin graduated from Assumption High School in Louisville, KY and received a Bachelor of Science and Master of Science from the University of Louisville.

She was a long-time member of The National Daughters of the American Revolution Cincinnati Chapter; Glendale Herb Society; Monday Writing Group; Cincinnati & Northern Kentucky Master Gardeners; and a longtime member of St. Gabreil Parish in Glendale, Ohio. Sherrin was also a devoted member of Lay Fraternities of Saint Dominic Fraternity 605, Our Lady of Peace.

Among other interests Sherrin was instrumental in helping to relocate the Fort Washington Monument to its current location on Arch Street, Cincinnati. As a young woman, she liked tennis and archery. She also kayaked, canoed, and rafted many streams in Kentucky and beyond. Sherrin was a patron of the arts and had a collection of unique artwork.

Service will be held at St. Gertrude Church, 7630 Shawnee Run Road, Madeira, Ohio Thursday, August 6, 9:30 a.m. Visitation from 8:30 to 9:30 a.m. in the parish center. Graveside services will be held at Calvary Cemetery in Louisville, Kentucky, on Saturday, August 8, at 11 a.m.
