Obituary

Rosa Immaculata Boiano (nee Rocchio) passed away peacefully on June 30, 2020 at age 100. She is survived by her loving children; James (Wanda), Rosanna Askren (Gary) and Anthony (Joan). Adored Nonnie to Tony, Drew, Kristy, Katie (Jon), Ashley (Rob), Alex, Abby (Sam) and Lizzie. Great Nonnie to Brody, Gianna and Mara. Rose was preceded in death by her loving husband John, eldest son Joe (Brigitte), and siblings Mary Castaldo, Catherine Cupp and John Rocchio. Rose was born to Giuseppe and Domenica Rocchio on May 16, 1920 in Gallo, Italy. At the age of 19, Rose, her mother and sister Catherine emigrated to America to join her father in Kokomo, Indiana. She later met and married John, who was also from her hometown of Gallo. They settled in the Walnut Hills neighborhood of Cincinnati where many Italian immigrants lived and began their family. They were married for 61 years. Once her children were grown, Rose began working as a seamstress at Fechheimer Brothers where she excelled at piecework.Rose was always busy. She loved listening to music, crocheting and, most of all, caring for her grandchildren. By her example, she instilled a strong work ethic in her children while still wanting to provide them an easier life than her own. Her quiet, deep faith in God guided her through life. She loved her church, attending St. Saviour for over seven decades.Mass of Christian burial will be celebrated on Friday, July 3, 2020 at 11 a.m. at St. Saviour Church. Donations can made in Rose's memory to St. Margaret Hall, 1960 Madison Road, Cincinnati, Ohio 45206. The wonderful staff at SMH made Rose's final years comfortable and loving. We thank them for their devotion to our mom.
