Obituary

Richard Jerome Wenstrup

Richard "Dick" Wenstrup, died on Tuesday, February 8 at age 99. Dick was a lifelong resident of Cincinnati and veteran of both World War II and the Korean War. Returning from the Pacific after WWII, he married Justine Sweeney ("the love of my life"), completed his bachelor's degree in engineering at the University of Cincinnati, began his career with the Frank Simpson Company, and started a family. He was active in civic affairs in Madeira, including service in 1959 on the Charter Commission of Madeira that established Madeira as a city. He was very involved with St. Gertrude Church and School, which he supported until his death. He retired as vice-president from The Frank Simpson Company, a manufacturer of industrial controls, after ~50 years of service.

Dick Wenstrup was a gracious and outgoing man who took a genuine interest in the people he met. He maintained and developed friendships throughout his life, from his childhood neighborhood in Price Hill, high school (Elder High School, 1941), military service and college, from those he met in Madeira and Siesta Key, FL, to residents and staff at his home at The Seasons senior living center. Beyond his family and friends, his lifelong passion was music. He deeply appreciated the big band sound of the forties and fifties, but he found his greatest pleasure in sacred music. He sang in the choirs of Saint Gertrude and Christ the King Churches. Joining the Musica Sacra chorus of Cincinnati in the 1960s, he continued his participation into his nineties. He also loved bridge, tennis, relaxing in his Siesta Key condominium, reading, and discussing current events.

Dick was the beloved husband of Justine Wenstrup (deceased 5/25/2001) for 55 years; loving and beloved father of Daniel (Linda), Richard Jr. (Karen Christian), Jeffrey (Rosie), Laurie (Mason) Tenaglia, and David (Kelly); dear grandfather of Jessica, Renee, Nathan, Eric, Peter, Max, Grant, Madeleine, Rosebelle, Matthew, Alexander and Emelyn; loving great-grandfather to 13. He was preceded in death by parents Joseph Henry (Jr.) and Elizabeth Shrimpton Wenstrup, wife Justine, sons Christopher and Thomas Wenstrup, and his and Justine's siblings.
