Richard J. Weitzel, 93, of Winter Garden, FL, passed away May 28, 2011, after a short stay in hospice. A Signal Corp Technical Sergeant during World War II, he participated in the North African and European Theater of Operations and was awarded the Bronze Star. After WW II, Richard returned to AT&T for 47 years with leadership positions in Cleveland and Cincinnati. Moving to Florida after retirement, Richard enjoyed having his family and friends visit and spent his last decade with his daughter Maureen and her family. He is survived by his son Michael and his wife Susan, his daughter Kathy (Herrmann) and her husband Michael, his daughter Maureen (Hinojosa) and her husband Fidel and his son Terry, six grandchildren, Ryan, Nicholas, Erin, Ashley, Sara and Jennifer, numerous nieces and nephews and his sister-in-law, Grace Bodie. He was preceded in death by his wife Kathleen and his two brothers and three sisters. Celebrate his life with us. Arrangements by Gilligan Funeral Home. Visitation will be 5 to 8 PM on Friday, June 3 with a Funeral Mass at St. Gertrude Church, Madeira, Ohio at 10 AM on Saturday, June 4 with burial at Gate of Heaven Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, the family suggests a donation to the Monastery of the Poor Clares, 3501 Rocky River Dr., Cleveland, OH, 44111-2998.
