Richard James Lewis, Sr. of Cincinnati, Ohio passed at age 78 on April 28, 2018. Dick was born on September 11, 1939, in Brooklyn, New York. He graduated from Jesuit High School (New Orleans) and Loyola University of New Orleans, where he received a Bachelors of Science in Chemistry, and the University of North Carolina (M.S.). In 1967, he married Grace Lewis (nee Ross) and they had two children, Julie Ross (Lewis) Herrmann and Richard James Lewis, Jr. Dick served in the U.S. Public Health Service for 24 years, retiring as a Captain. In his second career, he authored a number of chemical reference books, notably Dangerous Properties of Industrial Chemicals. He was a 50+ year member of the American Chemical Society and a longtime member of the Yacht Club of Hilton Head Island. He loved computers, sailing, traveling and living on Hilton Head Island. He was beloved to all who knew him and he will be greatly missed by his wife, his children, their spouses John and Heather, and by his grandchildren William, Ava, Matthew and William. A funeral Mass will be held at Good Shepherd Catholic Church in Montgomery, Ohio at noon on May 2, 2018. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made in Dicks name to the Port Royal Sound Foundation, 310 Okatie Highway, Okatie, SC 29909.
