Richard (Dick) Byrd Norton, Jr. of Cincinnati, OH, 66, died peacefully in the early morning, September 17, 2026, surrounded by his children, his best friend, and his extended family.
Born June 1, 1960 in Grand Rapids, Michigan, Dick was the oldest of five children. His family moved to Miami, Florida when he was eight. Dick attended Coral Reef Elementary, Palmetto Junior High, and Christopher Columbus High School in Miami. He took great pride in his beloved alma mater, The University of Notre Dame (Go, Irish!). Dick served his entire career as a dedicated and beloved member of the team at Hewitt Associates/Aon. He called Cincinnati, Ohio home and here he raised his family as a loving father, supportive neighbor, and involved school parent at Cincinnati Waldorf School.
Dick never lost his joyful enthusiasm for mathematics and aviation. He always said the best thing about living in Cincinnati was its proximity to the Air Force Museum. Growing up, his children frequently enjoyed UDF milkshakes in the Lunken parking lot while watching the planes land with their dad. Few things made him as happy as a beautiful sunset beachwalk with his family, skipping rocks into Lake Michigan.
Dick is preceded in death by his loving parents, Richard and Kathleen (Bowman) Norton, father-in-laws, David Jacob (“Jack”) Brecount and Rolly Bernhold, and nephew John Henry Alfonso III.
He is survived by his three children: Mary Kate (Dylan), 30, Grace, 27, and Andrew, 24; their mother, Elizabeth (Brecount); his brothers John (Maryann), Mike (Analisa), and Jim, and sister Maggie; his mother-in-law, Mary Brecount; in-laws Amy (Pete) White; Julie (Vipal) Patel; and David (Margaret) Brecount; nieces and nephews Sophie and Emmett Norton; Cameron (Gayle) and Benjamin Norton; Ian (Kaitlyn), David, and Samantha White; Kaelan and Leah Patel; Catherine, Joseph, Mary, John, and Cecilia Brecount; and great-nieces Lucy and Cassidy White.
A Mass of Christian burial will be celebrated on Tuesday, September 22, 2026 at 11 AM at St. Monica-St. George Church in Clifton (328 W. McMillian Street, Cincinnati, OH 45219), with a reception following in the undercroft. Rite of committal with immediate family will follow directly after Mass at Spring Grove Cemetery.
The family would like to thank the amazing cardiac staff at Jewish Hospital and Mercy West Hospital for their loving and peaceful care of their father.
In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to Grand Traverse Conservation District or Light Hawk conservation flying.
. . . And think of Dick next time you hear a plane overhead.
