Rebecca Louise Swantko (nee Riple), Becky passed away unexpectedly from complications of an acute subdural hematoma on Friday, January 7, 2011. She left this world peacefully and enveloped by the love of her family and friends. She was born February 13, 1930 in Reading, PA to James C. and Victoria Riple. "Becks" was the beloved wife and best friend of the late Michael Swantko. She was the loving mother of: Michael T. (Cheryl) of Bend, Oregon, James T. (Sue) of Scottsdale, Arizona, Stephen M. (Mike) of Cincinnati, and Ann R. Fry (Chalk) also of Cincinnati. She was the proud grandparent of: Adam (Sarah), Samuel, Michael, Jacob, James, and Katharine. She was the tickled and delighted great-grandparent to Jackson and Kaitlyn. Becky is also survived by many nieces and nephews and her beloved rescue cat Lucy. Retired nurse from Geisinger Hospital of Pennsylvania; volunteer for over 20 years at Cincinnati Children's Hospital in the surgical ward and later at Jewish Hospital in Kenwood in their family waiting room, active in her church, active member of the King's Island 9-Holers, active member of the "Adventure Lane Gang", and a very dear friend to many. Her family would like to extend special thanks to the team of caring physicians and nurses at the University of Cincinnati Neurological Science Intensive Care Unit for their compassion and assistance which exceeded all customary standards. Visitation at the Gilligan Funeral Home at Galbraith and Montgomery Rds: Thursday January 13th from 4-7pm. Mass of Christian Burial at Good Shepherd Catholic Church 8815 East Kemper Road on January 14th at 10:00am, interment at the Gate of Heaven Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to: Cincinnati Children's Hospital Medical Center 3333 Burnet Avenue, Cincinnati, OH 45229-3039.
