Obituary

Rebecca Hiatt Gusweiler-Slemmer of Cincinnati, died peacefully at her home in Hyde Park on July 18, 2003 at the age of eighty-eight. Mrs. Gusweiler-Slemmer was born in Hagerstown, Indiana on October 2, 1914. She grew up in Centerville, Indiana and attended Earlham College in Richmond, Indiana, where she met and later married the late Fred W. Gusweiler. They had three children, two of whom preceded her in death: Cloe Ann Voll and Frederick Hiatt Gusweiler. Also preceding her in death was her much loved son-in-law, D. Michael Poast, and her brother, Jim Hiatt. She is survived by her beloved daughter, Rebecca Gusweiler Poast, ten grandchildren, one great-grandchild, her daughter-in-law Mary Beth Morganroth, and several nieces and nephews. Her family was the most important thing to her. In 1985, she married Robert Elliot Slemmer, M.D., who died in 2000. She was an active member of the PEO Sorority, the Cincinnati Country Club, the Cincinnati Women's Club and The University Club. She was a supporter of the Fine Arts, attending the Cincinnati Symphony Orchestra, the Cincinnati Ballet, the Cincinnati Opera and the Playhouse in the Park. She was an outstanding seamstress and was a model for many fund raisers in Cincinnati. She was a member of the Salvation Army Auxiliary. She was a wonderful dancer and was a member of the Merrymakers Dance Club. She was also a member of the Travel Club of Cincinnati, the Literary Club and the English Speaking Union Club. She was a lifelong member of the Hyde Park Community United Methodist Church where a memorial to celebrate her life will be held on August 29th; visitation at 10:00am and Memorial Service will follow at 11:00am. The family requests that in lieu of flowers, donations be sent to the Autonomic Dysfunction Center of Vanderbilt University, AA 3228 Medical Center North, Nashville, TN 37232 or to the charity of your choice. Her body was donated to the U.C. Medical Research Center.
