Raymond Leroy Woerner, Jr., age 63, died suddenly on October 15, 2004. He was born on October 20, 1940, in Columbus, Ohio. He was the son of Clara Jane and Ray Woerner. Growing up in Cincinnati, Ohio, he was surrounded by a large circle of family and friends. It is during those years that he was taught many values and traditions that he would ultimately pass on to his own family. After graduating from Indian Hill High School in Indian Hill, Ohio, he attended The University of Cincinnati and completed his college education at Youngstown State University with a degree in Business Administration. While in college, he worked the sales floor at Burkhardt's Clothing Store beginning December 1961 to January 1965. In the fall of 1962 while attending Rio Grande College he met Marjorie June Hiltbrand, the love of his life. They walked down the isle on August 28th in 1965. Over the years his professional real estate career took him on a journey with various corporations. In the early stages, he was a Market Research Analyst for The People's Bank in Youngstown, Ohio, from June, 1965, to August, 1966. He took his first real estate position with The Standard Oil Company in Cleveland, Ohio, as part of the Marketing and Real Estate division where he worked from August of 1966 to February, 1972. He acquired his next position with Developers Diversified based in Cleveland, Ohio, as the Director of Corporate Growth until January of 1974, when he moved on to work with Ponderosa Systems, Inc. until April of 1977. He then worked as a Regional Real Estate Director for Howard Johnsons until July, 1983, when he made his final move to Marriott International to work in Development on the innovative Courtyard hotel brand. During his last few years with Marriott in the early nineties, his focus changed towards the Germantown project, which was the potential relocation site of the Marriott Corporate Heaquarters. He retired from Bethesda based Marriott International in 1995. After retirement from the corporate world he started his own company, Cornerstone Investments, Inc., working as a consultant for an owner of Marriott hotels, The Jacobs Group, for several years before 'officially' retiring. Ray was a member of the Industrial Development Research Council, Inc., the International Council of Shopping Centers, and the Phi Delta Theta Fraternity. He served as a Member of the Board of Directors of the Montgomery County Chamber of Commerce in Rockville, Maryland from 1991 through 1996. Ray was always a silent steady force who proudly raised his children teaching and guiding them to be productive contributors to society. With all of his family and friends, he shared favorite traditions he held so dear to his heart: Ohio State football, the Cincinnati Reds, golf, tennis, swimming, boating, computer technology, and gardening. As a young boy, he spent many vacations in Torch Lake in the upper peninsula of Michigan and on the beaches of Florida. In 1999, he organized a special trip to Torch Lake taking Marge, Beth and Peter, Erin and Buddy, and his grandson, Raymond, back to share the beauty and memories that he had shared with his parents, brother Ralph, and his then new wife Marge, and eventually their young children. With family as his compass, he lived each day always keeping his family in mind with all that life had to offer him. There was nothing more important to him than spending time with his family, especially his grandchildren during the past several years. He will be deeply missed. Survivors include his wife of 39 years, Marjorie Hiltbrand, daughter Elizabeth W. Teschner and her husband Peter H. of Ormond Beach, FL, son, Raymond L. 'Buddy' Woerner, III and his wife Erin R. , grandchildren, Raymond Carl and Suzanne Grace of Potomac, MD, brother Ralph Knapp Woerner , aunt, Sister Mary Clarrise, SND, and Helen Hiltbrand of Salem, Ohio. Friends will be received at Gilligan Funeral Home, 8225 Montgomery Rd. at Galbraith (Cincinnati) on Friday from 8:30AM until 10 AM Mass of Christian Burial at St. Gertrude Church, Madeira, Cincinnati.
