Raymond David "Mossy" Harten, aged 96, passed away on August 24, 2024, in Cincinnati, Ohio. Born on February 23, 1928, in Cincinnati, he was a devoted member of the Bellarmine Chapel community, embodying Catholic teachings throughout his life.

Dave graduated from Purcell High School in 1946 and earned a bachelor degree from Xavier University in 1950. His commitment to service was evident during his tenure as a private in the United States Army, where he served in the Korean War.

Professionally, Dave began his career as a math teacher and swimming coach at Withrow High School in Cincinnati.  He then transitioned to the insurance industry and started his own agency for the remainder of his professional career. This passion for education and helping others was a constant throughout his life.

A devout Catholic, Dave's faith deeply influenced his life and actions, manifesting in his commitment to social activism.  In the 1960's, he was involved with the United Farmworker movement and then the civil rights movement, marching in Montgomery, Alabama in 1965.  Later in life, Dave worked alongside his wife Carol and family in several business ventures, including Mid-City Investments real estate and historic Mecklenburg Gardens restaurant.

Dave was preceded in death by his parents, Raymond Philip Harten and Cecilia M. Harten; his sister, June Farrell; his wife, Carol Joyce Harten, his grandson, Philip Harten and great grandson Brennen Loomis.

He is survived by his children, Teresa Harten, John (Emily) Harten, Paul (Amy) Harten, Sarah (Walter) Koucky, Thomas (Annamarie) Harten, Maura (J. Miles) Wolf, Jennifer Harten, and Christopher (Allison) Harten.  His legacy continues through his surviving 21 grandchildren and 18 great-grandchildren.

Dave's life will be celebrated and remembered for his dedication to his family, his faith, and his community. Visitation will be held at Bellarmine Chapel at Xavier University, at 10:30 am, and Mass at 11:30 am, August 30, 2024.  Entombment will follow at the Gate of Heaven Catholic Cemetery, 11000 Montgomery Road, Cincinnati, Ohio, 45249 at St. Luke's Mausoleum.
