Obituary

Paula M. DeGreg passed away on October 27.  She was preceded in death by her beloved husband of 71 years, Edmonde DeGreg, this past May.  Also predeceased by her parents, Constance and Felix Rasulo, who both immigrated as children from southern Italy to Yonkers, NY, and her brother, Salvatore Rasulo.

She is survived by her children Edmonde (Grace) DeGregorio, Philip (Carol) DeGreg, and JoAnne (David Dukart) DeGreg.  Grandmother of Anthony and Joseph (Kristina) DeGregorio,  Nicole (Fordking "Marlon" Rustand Paulino) DeGreg, Julia (Ben) Holton, Daniel (Carly) Dukart, Jeremy, Rachel, Madelyn and Nora Dukart.  Great-grandmother to Guiliana, Emilia, Sofia, Cora, Louisa, and Claire.

Paula attended Hunter College in New York City for several years and subsequently worked as a secretary in a cardiology office, where she made good use of her organizational skills.  She and Ed married in August of 1949 and enjoyed life in the city.  However, when Ed was transferred to Cincinnati, she readily moved her young family to then-rural Mason, Ohio (after a brief stint in Bond Hill).  Ed's sales job frequently required him to be away during the week, and Paula excelled at independently caring for their three children.  Ed always gave great credit to Paula for her ability to handle all situations by herself-and without a car-including illnesses, broken bones, schooling and extracurricular activities.  She nurtured her children's interests and creative pursuits, especially music.

Once the children were older, and the family was settled in Kenwood, Paula again sought out opportunities to apply her management skills, which included years working as a medical secretary at the old Epp Memorial Hospital, as administrative assistant in the Xavier University graduate Hospital Administration program, and finally as a successful realtor with West Shell and Sibcy Cline.

One of the perks of Ed's job was the opportunity for international travel with his customers, and the couple enjoyed many trips abroad, including Israel, Italy, and Hong Kong.  Paula was a gracious host alongside her husband, and together they forged many long-lasting friendships with customers, as well as with several neighbors at home.

In retirement, Paula and Ed enjoyed regular visits to Longboat Key Florida, frequently accompanied by their children and grandchildren.  Paula enjoyed cooking wonderful seafood for her family, gin and tonic at hand, and sitting on the beach watching the sunset with Ed.  She shared her love of cooking with her family, and was regarded as a very fine cook by all.  Ed especially appreciated her traditional Italian fare.  She also loved time spent with grandchildren, supporting their interests, baby-sitting on short notice, and hosting the occasional sleepover-complete with French toast in the morning.   She was generous with her time and caring when exceptional need arose.

Paula and Ed's long marriage was truly an example of devotion and constancy.  They were each other's lifelong best friend.  Even in their last days together, they held hands and quietly professed their love for each other.  They will both be missed.
