Paul Joseph Cunningham, beloved husband of Ruth Cunningham (nee Sandfoss) for 55 years, departed on March 21, 2014 at the age of 81. He was the devoted father of James (Maury) Cunningham, Sharon (Nick) Forlenza, Vicki Cunningham, Mark (Mary) Cunningham, and Brian (Nicole) Cunningham; cherished grandfather of Colin, Courtney, Kimberly, Nicholas, Hailey, Hannah, and Sydney; and dear brother of Eileen Friend. Paul was born in Cincinnati, Ohio on August 30, 1932 to Joseph and Hilda Cunningham. He graduated from Elder High School and also attended The University of Cincinnati. He proudly served our country in the US Navy during the Korean War and was stationed in Okinawa, Japan. He then went on to work at Ellis & Watts for 35 years, followed by 19 years of volunteer work at Bethesda North Hospital. Paul was a lover of dogs as well as an avid sports fan. He especially loved following the Reds, Bengals, and Bearcats. He adored his grandchildren and was particularly proud of their athletic and academic achievements. He enjoyed working in the yard and was known for his ability to fix anything that was broken. He loved to walk and could frequently be found walking the neighborhood, talking with and helping neighbors. Paul was loved by all of us and will be greatly missed. Visitation will be held Thursday, March 27 from 6:00 8:00 pm at Gilligan Funeral Home, 8225 Montgomery Rd.
