Nancy Stone Kohnen Black (75). Passed away peacefully at home July 7, 2014 after a brief illness. Predeceased by her husband David Black and her son Daniel Hillenbrand Kohnen. Mother of Ralph W. Kohnen (Monica), Allen S. Kohnen (Mary), and Nan Kohnen Cahall. Loving step mother of Susan A. Black, Robert H. Black (Sue), Dorothy B. Franzoni (Chip), James E. Black (Liz), Evelyn P. Dykema (Erik), step daughter in law Patti Black. Beloved Grandmother of 5 grandchildren and 9 step grandchildren. Mrs. Black graduated from the Summit Country Day School. She was a member of the school's Fleur-de-Lis Society and recognized with the McKenzie-Sargent Distinguished Alumni Award in 2004. She attended The University of Cincinnati where she studied education and returned to school many years later earning an Associate Degree in Horticulture from Cincinnati Technical College and a Bachelor of Arts Degree from Xavier University. She never earned anything less than an "A". Mrs. Black was a longstanding member of The Junior League of Cincinnati, serving as President from 1977-1979. As President of the Junior League, Mrs. Black helped guide the opening of the Cincinnati Fire Museum. She remained a great advocate for The Cincinnati Fire Museum, where she proudly served as Executive Director for more than 10 years. During her tenure she raised the level of the museum's visibility and increased its funding. Mrs. Black was a member of the Cincinnati Country Club, the University Club Downtown, the Duveneck Association and the Indian Hill Church. As an avid world traveler and lifelong resident of Cincinnati, she leaves friends from around the globe as well as here in her hometown. Funeral Service: Friday, July 11th, 10:00 am. The Indian Hill Church, 6000 Drake Road. Burial to follow at Spring Grove Cemetery.
