Matthew J. Taylor, beloved husband, father, grandfather, brother, and friend, passed away on June 14, 2026, at the age of 63.
Born on December 12, 1962 in New York state, Matt grew up in Lebanon, Ohio, as the oldest of five children where his fondest memories were made on the family farm. From the very beginning, Matt never had much interest in playing it safe and lived life on his own terms. He graduated from Bishop Fenwick High School in 1981 before continuing his studies at Wright State University and The Ohio State University. He was a gifted writer with a sharp mind and a passion for journalism that continued throughout his life. He had a deep appreciation for classic rock, the kind best played loud, and a natural curiosity that led him down countless rabbit holes of history, stories, and forgotten photographs. Whether he was uncovering Cincinnati's past or debating the fortunes of the Reds and Bengals, Matt brought passion and knowledge to everything that captured his interest. One of the greatest blessings of Matt’s later years was connecting with his biological family, including his brother Robert. Their relationship added a cherished chapter to his life story.
Matt is survived by his loving wife of 25 years, Kim Taylor; his daughters, Jessica (Nathan) Shaw, Kelly (Cole) Hayes, Brittany Vennemeyer, and Kadie (Nick) Harness; and his nine grandchildren. He is also survived by his beloved siblings, Ann Taylor, Bruce (Kandy) Taylor-Hille, Mary (Joseph) Thesken, Cathy (Brad) Beckner, and Robert Kenney; his aunt, Gerry “Bitsy” Vanderputten; his uncle, Curt Honekamp; and many nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends.
Matt was preceded in death by his loving parents, Antoinette and John Taylor.
A Celebration of Life will be held at a later date. Memorial donations may be made to GO2 For Lung Cancer in Matt’s memory to support lung cancer research and patient services.
