Mary Anne Leugers (born Mary Anne McDonald) Years before her volunteer activities at Krohn Conservatory, Jewish Hospital and as reading tutor at Deer Park Elem., Mary Anne was a teacher, mentor and loving mother to her 10 children. Born in the family home on August 5, 1929 to George and Ruth McDonald, she was the youngest sister of Kathleen, George and Jack, 11, 9, and 5 years older, all deceased. The family moved to Mt. Lookout where her father George continued his successful architectural practice, specializing in church architecture. The beginning of many life challenges occurred when she was seven and her mother died of cancer. Her father re-married when she was 12 and her stepbrother, Patrick McDonald was born. She attended Cardinal Pacelli grade school, graduated from St. Ursula High School in 1947, and went on to attend Our Lady of Cincinnati, majoring in home economics. While a student there, she met the love of her life John Leugers when she was an usher at the Opera. Married in January 1951, she and John moved to Washington DC, where John attended Georgetown University in the MBA program. Returning to Cincinnati, they began a large family: Ruth, Anne, Martha, John, Susan, Matthew, Mark, Peg, Robert, and Mary. A resilient survivor of illnesses and partial blindness, Mary Anne was family matriarch, teacher, and astute business woman, becoming an assistant accountant after her children were in school. Her practical, industrious, behind-the scenes leadership was always the framework for our loving family. She will be sorely missed by her devoted husband of 56 years and her ten loving children, 26 grandchildren, and 3 great-grandchildren. From 2-3 PM, a visitation will be held at Bellarmine Chapel at Xavier University. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 3 PM, with reception following at the Gallagher Center on Xavier's campus.
