Obituary

Martin L. Bennett passed away Monday evening, March 10th after a brief illness. His son Stephan and daughter Linda were by his side. He is survived also by his wife of three years, Evelyn Shields Bennett. Martin lost his wife of more than sixty years, Wanda Brannon Bennett when she died suddenly on January 1st, 2009. Earlier Martin and his family suffered the loss of son David in 1982 and daughter Laurie in 2008. Janet Bennett Taylor, his only sibling, died in February, 2013. Despite the grief from these untimely deaths, Martin was first and foremost a family man who enjoyed life. He dearly loved his children and his two nieces, Pamela Taylor Farrish (Daniel) and Susan Taylor Geresy. Pam and Susan, with great love and devotion, helped care for Martin in his final days with son Steve and his wife Julie and daughter Linda and her husband Jeff. Martin cherished grandchildren Brittany and Nicole Bany, Caitlin and Darcy Martin, and Stephanie, Alexandra and Nicholas Bennett. Great nieces Kaeleigh Farrish and Mallory Geresy and great nephew David Geresy were beloved members of his extended family. As a business man, Martin rose to become president of Cloudsley Company which grew under his leadership to become an innovative and prominent force in the flexible packaging industry. He retired in 1984. Martin married Evelyn Shields after Wanda passed away, renewing friendships between the two families that reached back many years. He was much loved by all of Evelyn's eight children, their spouses, children and grandchildren. One of Martin's proudest accomplishments was his service to his country as a Naval Air Corps pilot during World War 2 and through his years as a reservist until 1956. On his 80th birthday he relived a moment of his flying experience in a plane that he had once piloted during active duty. His life will be celebrated in a memorial service at Gilligan Funeral Home at 8225 Montgomery Road, Kenwood, Ohio on Saturday, March 15 at 11 a.m. followed by a reception at the home of Jeff and Linda Martin, 607 West Hanna Avenue, Loveland, Ohio. Memorial donations may be made to St. Jude's Children's Hospital which held a special place in Martin's heart.
