Marsha Elaine Payton (Coronel) passed away Saturday, December 27, 2025. She was born in Gallipolis, Ohio, August 30, 1970, the daughter of Marcel and Elaine Coronel.
Marsha is a 1989 graduate of Gallia Academy High School and a graduate with honors of the University of Cincinnati.
Marsha spent most of her life working with children. First, through social work at Hamilton County Job and Family Services, then with the Council on Child Abuse. After raising Will and Ryan through grade school, Marsha returned to the work force as a pre-school teacher at Cardinal Pacelli. All throughout, she was very active in our boy’s lives as class mom at their school and team mom in volleyball. She also made sure our family actively volunteered in the community with Matthew 25 Ministries and New Life Furniture Bank, among others.
Marsha is survived by her Husband John, sons Will and Ryan, siblings Stuart (Vanessa) Hyden, Kimberly (Dirk) Coyan and Michelle E Coronel, nephew Connor Coyan and nieces Emma Hidalgo, Chloe Hyden and Sydney Coyan.
Marsha is preceded in death by her parents Marcel and Elaine.
The family wishes to express our thanks to the caregivers at Christ Hospital Cancer Center and Hospice of Cincinnati for the kind, caring and compassionate support they provided throughout Marsha’s care.
A special thanks to all our friends and family that provided comfort and support during this whole battle but particularly in Marsha’s final days.
A viewing will be held on Friday January 2, 2026, from 5:00 - 7:00 PM at Gilligan Funeral Home 8225 Montgomery Rd. And a memorial service will be held on Saturday, January 3, 2026, from 12:30 - 1:30 PM at St. Xavier High School chapel, 600 W. North Bend Rd, with a reception following.
Marsha will be cremated and her ashes will remain with John, Will and Ryan. The family requests in lieu of flowers, donations be made in her name to St Jude Research Hospital and the American Cancer Society.
