Marilyn Hertlein age 90, passed away peacefully on September 11, 2024 surrounded by her loving family. Marilyn was born September 26, 1933, in Cincinnati, daughter of the late Nathan and Marcella Thul. She was preceded in death by her loving husband of 68 years, Charles Hertlein, and is survived by their five sons, Charles F. Hertlein, Jr. (Katherine); Richard A. Herlein (Denice); Thomas P. Hertlein (Laura); David R. Hertlein (Therese); and Robert P. Hertlein (Mary Jo) all of Cincinnati. She was a beloved grandmother to 11 grandchildren and 11 great-grandchildren. Marilyn was a graduate of Saint Ursula Academy and the Cincinnati College of Music. She married the love of her life, Charles Hertlein, on October 2, 1954. She was a loving mother to her five sons. Marilyn was a talented pianist, with a particular love of the works of Chopin, and after raising her sons spent many years as a private piano teacher. She loved to knit and crochet (completing baby blankets for her 10th and 11th great grandchildren just last year!) and was also an avid gardener. In addition to her parents and husband, Marilyn was also preceded in death by her sister, Sr. Mary Grace (Thul) OP and her brothers Robert S. Thul, SJ and Andrew B. Thul.
Family and friends will be received on Wednesday, September 18, 2024 from 9:00 to 10:30 AM at Gilligan Funeral Home, 8225 Montgomery Road, Cincinnati, OH 45236. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held the same day at 11:00 AM at All Saints Church, 8939 Montgomery Road, Cincinnati, OH 45236. A private interment will be held later at Spring Grove Cemetery.
