Marian B. Case (nee Burke), 89, beloved wife of Robert O. (Bob) Case, devoted mother of Robert A. Case (Mary-Suzanne), Leila A. Case (Charles Meyer), John G. Case (Karen), Mary Deirdre Case Patchen (Gregory), Pamela J. Case Stanger (Christoph), Maureen M. Case and the late Jennifer S. Case, loving grandmother of Carl Case, Sarah Case, Colleen Case, Scott Case, Michael Stanger, Aaron Grace, Alexa Stanger, Nicholas Stanger, and Thomas Stanger, fond step-grandmother of Philip Meyer, Katherine Meyer Bruffy and Evan Meyer, dear sister of Lila Gavin (late Thomas), Dr. Edward Burke (Nancy) and the late John Burke (Mary Frances), also survived by many nieces and nephews. Born in Chicago to the late John J. Burke and Ellen Mary Hoban Burke (both of Ireland), Marian earned her Bachelor's degree at Chicago Teachers College and her Master of Arts degree at Northwestern University. Marian taught at McPherson Elementary School in Chicago before marrying Bob in 1953. They moved to Deerfield in 1956 where they made their family home for 54 years, raising seven children and making many lifelong friends. Marian was a devout Catholic, a longstanding member of Holy Cross Church in Deerfield, and was actively involved in a number of charities. She served on the Women's Board of Misericordia, on the Board of Governors of the Illinois Club for Catholic Women, on The Auxiliary of the Presentation Ball, and was a past chairwoman of the Presentation Ball. She also cared for unwed mothers from Catholic Charities in Chicago providing them a home until the birth of their child. She was passionate about music and the arts, loved travel, and had a deep appreciation of different cultures. For many years she sang in the Holy Cross and Immaculate Conception parish choirs. A longtime member of Exmoor Country Club, she enjoyed golf, tennis and swimming and was an avid reader, bridge player and pianist. Above all, Marian was dedicated to her family. Her unswerving strength and devotion sustained and bonded them. Blessed with integrity, generosity, compassion and a fun-loving spirit, Marian was a true role model for her family. Marian died peacefully in Cincinnati, Ohio, on Saturday, November 24, 2012, after a long illness. Services will be held at Holy Cross Church, Deerfield, Illinois, on Saturday, December 15, 2012, with a Visitation at 9 am followed by a Memorial Mass at 10 am.
