Obituary

Leaving a wonderful legacy of love, laughter, and vibrancy, Margretta Janet Huster passed peacefully on November 28, 2024 at age 93. Margretta and her husband, Bill, were married for 41 years when he passed in 1994. They were amazing parents, grandparents, and great-grandparents. They led by example and displayed impeccable values and stability for their extended clan.

Margretta (known as Maggie by her friends) is survived by her loving children, Mike (Kathy) Huster, Bill (Gertrude deceased) Huster, Mary (Bruce) Jolly, Tim (Lena) Huster, Steve Huster, Pete (Julie) Huster, Anne (Bill) Koelker, Jeanne (Chris) Muia, Peggy (John) Gennantonio, and Ted (Jaylene) Huster. Margretta was preceded in death by her three sisters, Sr. Mary Rose Wittekind. O.P., Adele (the late Art) Wilhelm, and Charlotte (Bill) Schoenberger, who each meant the world to her. She is also survived by 32 grandchildren and 19 great-grandchildren. In addition, she is survived by numerous nieces, nephews, great-nieces and nephews, cousins, as well as her life-long friends from Melrose Avenue in Norwood, Regina High School, The Gang, The Fun Bunch, and special friends from All Saints Church and Moeller High School.

Her devotion to the Catholic faith was a driving force behind her many volunteer activities as the Chairwoman of the St. Margaret Mary Society, member of All Saints School Board, All Saints Coordinator of the Annual Blood Drive for 25 years, member of the All Saints Adult Choir, Lay distributor of Holy Communion to the elderly, Founding Member and Secretary of the Blue Ash Montgomery Symphony Orchestra, Secretary of the Cincinnati Bar Auxiliary, Secretary of the Moeller High School Boosters Club where she rubbed elbows with Coach Gerry Faust, and more. She depended on the Holy Spirit to help her take care of her husband, ten children, and accomplish the work required for these volunteer activities.

Born on March 11, 1931, Margretta was the eldest of four girls born to Frank and Charlotte Wittekind (nee Horstman). Countless stories were shared by Margretta regarding the farm in Sunman, IN, and the conditions they had to overcome during the Great Depression. Margretta's family enjoyed love and laughter, music, homemade dinners, playing cards, and flowers. Her lovely singing voice accompanied by her piano playing entertained everyone at special times.

Margretta did everything very well. She loved being outdoors especially when viewing the beautiful flowers and butterflies at the Cincinnati Nature Center and Krohn Conservatory. She loved playing the piano (she could play from memory), dancing, playing sports with her boys, and skiing on the Ohio River with The Gang. Her smile would light up the room when someone was sad. She loved making people laugh.

Motherhood became her most treasured role. She took delight and pride in each of her ten children and took it upon herself to create special memories with her grandchildren. She just loved all people and her out-going, empathetic nature and sunny outlook drew people to her. Margretta was an avid golfer and was very accurate on the greens especially playing against her sons. She was competitive and loved winning. When she lost, she took it gracefully.

Margretta was all about celebrating others. She remembered birthdays and the special occasions of those near and dear to her. Her family's Christmas photo cards were started in the 1950s and carried on until the 2020s. Some friends have kept them to see how our family changed over the years.

Donations to a charity of your choice in honor of Margretta will be greatly appreciated.
