Obituary

Louis Hummel Muhlhofer, beloved husband of 55 Years to Virginia Paeltz Muhlhofer, son of the late Frank William and Anna Hummel Muhlhofer. Brother of the late Frank William Muhlhofer, Jr. Also survived by nieces Clarinda M. Tinkham (James E.), Elizabeth M. Thomas (Charles L. III), and nephew Frank William Muhlhofer, III (Shannon S.), and several great-nieces and nephews. Born August 28, 1931, a native Cincinnatian, he Graduated from Withrow High School and attended Miami University and the University of Cincinnati. He was employed by Sakrete Ready Mix, Alpha Portland Cement Co., and Reading Rock Inc. before he retired in 1996. As a life-long learner, with the capability to build relationships and understand peoples' aspirations, Lou quickly excelled and was promoted to Sales Manager. During his review of plans, visits to jobs and block plants, he made customers' dreamers. By bringing great variety, innovation, and scale of Reading Rock to the local building industry, he brought style to the design of many facilities in the Tri-State. While listening to architects and contractors, who became his friends and customers, Lou led the way and made their visions became a reality. This was accomplished with the creation of a precast concrete product developed at Reading Rock. During his retirement years, Lou's personal skills of active listening and bringing the best out of everyone he knew. Lou was an avid Cincinnati professional sports fan. He was a season ticket holder to the Cincinnati Reds, Bengals, and Royals for many years. He purchased his season tickets to the Cincinnati Bengals when the first game was at Nippert stadium and found he was sitting next to Bob Johnson's wife (Bob, being the first Bengal chosen in the draft). Lou loved life and in spite of all the physical challenges endured for the last 20 years, he showed a great spirit of hope and determination. He died peacefully August 29, 2018 at Hospice of Cincinnati, one day after his 87th birthday. Lou will be greatly missed. Services will be held on Friday, September 7, 2018, at Spring Grove Cemetery.
