Obituary

Lawrence Francis "Larry" Bredestege was born on July 17, 1931 in Cincinnati, Ohio to Joseph and Velma (nee Simko) Bredestege. Larry was the second oldest of eleven children, and he is survived by three siblings, Velma Lough, Pauline "Paula" Hartinger, and Charles "Chuck" Bredestege. Larry died on May 25, 2025 at Christ Hospital in Cincinnati under the care of Hospice of Cincinnati at age 93 due to complications related to his advanced age.

Larry enjoyed 47 wonderful years with his beloved wife Rose Ann and leaves behind five children with his former wife Josephine (Schell) Bredestege (deceased in 1980) including Mary Newport, Angela Bertke, Linda Oehler, Rosemary Krondilou, and Lois McGinley, his stepdaughter Julie Lowenstein, 17 grandchildren, and 22 great grandchildren.

Larry attended St. Lawrence Elementary School and graduated from Elder High School. He followed in his father Joseph's footsteps to work on the Baltimore and Ohio Railroad (now CSX) after completing a four-year machinist apprenticeship and retired from the railroad at age 62. Larry also worked a second job for several years as a school bus driver for St. Dominic and for Oaks Hills School District and fought for the rights of school bus drivers through their union.

After retirement, Larry and Rose Ann moved to Seminole, Florida where they spent many wonderful evenings on the beach and were actively involved in their community. They returned to Cincinnati in late 2006 to live in the Pinnacle Point community where he enjoyed many meaningful friendships. Larry served for years as a board member and as an effective president of his neighborhood homeowner's associations in Seminole and in Pinnacle Point. He was an active golfer most of his adult life finally and reluctantly putting down the irons at age 91. He was also an active volunteer in the construction and operation of EnterTrainment Junction for years. Larry was a ray of sunshine, an optimist who lit up the room, and he was loved by all. He especially enjoyed spending time with his children, grandchildren, and great grandchildren. We will all miss him dearly.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations in his memory to St. Jude's Children's Research Hospital .
