Kathryn Ann Morris Hawkins, beloved mother, grandmother and great-grandmother, passed away on September 29, 2010 at the age of 89. She was preceded in death by her husband of forty years, Robert Vernon Hawkins and by her daughter Deborah Ann Madden. She is survived by three daughters: Dinah Lyn Hawkins, Deliah Ruth Chavez and Delori Acushla Hawkins, all of Cincinnati; by one son Bradford Charles Hawkins and daughter-in-law JuHee Hawkins of Navarre, Florida, and by seven grandchildren and four great-grandchildren. Born to a Quaker family on April 25, 1921, Kathryn grew up on her family's Valley View Farm near Bloomingdale, Indiana. She earned a Bachelor of Arts degree from Indiana State University and a Master of Education degree from Ball State University. During her long career as an educator, she taught students at every level from preschool to college. Most recently prior to her retirement, she was a Professor of English Literature and Composition at Morehead State University in Kentucky. A prolific published writer and gifted teacher, Kathryn was also an avid crafter of handmade braided rugs and patchwork quilts. Throughout her life, she sustained an abiding love for her family, friends and students, a deep appreciation of nature and poetry and a profound joy of living undiminished even in her long final illness. She will be greatly missed. A Service of Remembrance will take place at 4 o'clock PM on Saturday, November 13, 2010 at the Cincinnati Friends Meeting of Indian Hill, located at 8075 Keller Road, Cincinnati, Ohio 45243, with Minister Donne Hayden officiating. In lieu of flowers, donations in memory of Kathryn Hawkins may be made if desired to Hospice of Southwest Ohio, 7625 Camargo Road, Cincinnati, Ohio 45243.
