Born to a Quaker family on April 25, 1921, Kathryn grew up on her family's Valley View Farm near Bloomingdale, Indiana. She earned a Bachelor of Arts degree from Indiana State University and a Master of Education degree from Ball State University. Most recently prior to her retirement, she was a Professor of English Literature and Composition at Morehead State University in Kentucky.
