IN LOVING MEMORY OF
Kathleen E.
Mcclanahan
July 24, 1965 – November 22, 2021
Kathleen McClanahan passed away at the age of 56 following a 20 month battle with brain cancer. She was born in Rochester, NY on July 24, 1965. Katie's greatest love was her family. She is survived by her beloved husband and best friend Mark McClanahan, three loving sons William (Casey) McClanahan, Patrick (Jessica) McClanahan and Kevin McClanahan, grandchildren Rarick and Rowan McClanahan, siblings William Smyth, Kevin (Elise) Smyth, Sarah (John) Gabel, Veronica DeNoma, Claire (Richard) Dineen and preceded in death by parents William and Patricia Smyth.
Some people only walk this earth for a short period of time, but make up for it in their loving, caring impact on others. And that's just what our dear Katie did. She was there for any worry, problem or celebration. She always helped to find a solution and was there for support in any instance. Her upbeat, big-hearted, "can-do" attitude touched everyone's lives. So many wonderful memories growing up together on Sandymar Drive ~ all eight of us, summer days spent swimming at Montgomery Businessmen's Swim Club, riding bikes to town, CCD classes, visits to Kings Island and of course we better had a good excuse if we didn't make it to Mass any given Sunday.
Then, while working at Courthouse Racquet Club, Katie met her best friend and husband Mark. They married in 1989 and soon after welcomed three sons Will, Patrick and Kevin. Together Katie and Mark embraced parenthood full heartedly and it shows every bit in their kind, loving sons. Katie's greatest love and joy has always been her family. Being a Mom was second nature to her. She was there 24/7 for her boys. They never left the house without her telling them how much she loves them and would often remind them "don't lower your bar, you always need to raise it". And that, they sure do; Katie's radiant and perseverant attitude is greatly reflected through them.
Katie went onto be a successful realtor with Sibcy Cline Realtors and volunteered much of her time to All Saints Church's Golden Shamrocks with our dear mother Pat.
It was March 2020 when Katie received the diagnosis of grade III glioma. She was an amazing model of strength, perseverance and faith in God; even still caring and asking about others through it all. She felt so much love and support from all her family and friends stopping by everyday. Despite all the struggles and limitations, she never complained. Mark took such loving, wonderful care of our dear Katie at home, only ever leaving her side for small errands. They were a perfect team together.
It is so comforting to picture her in Heaven now, at peace with no more suffering and surrounded by love. We will miss you terribly Kate, but know we have an angel watching over us. We love you past the rooftop of Heaven.
