Kathleen "Kitty" Kleiman Dittmann was born March 5, 1923 in Cincinnati to William and Mary (nee Rigney) Kleiman. She was the third child of eight, devoted to her older sister Virginia, older brother William, Jr., and younger sisters Dorothy, Elizabeth, Patricia, Marian, and Jane. The family lived on Hackberry Street in East Walnut Hills for many years. Kitty graduated from St. Mary's High School (later Purcell-Marian) in 1941 and worked for the Federal Reserve Bank. She married Daniel Dittmann at St. Francis DeSales Church on May 17, 1947. Kitty and Dan were blessed with a loving extended family and lifelong treasured friends. They raised two daughters, Barbara and Karen. Over the years, Kitty and Dan cheerfully attended countless school concerts, plays, and academic events. In later years, they were also regulars at their grandchildren's Grandparents' Day events, dance recitals, piano recitals, concerts, and school productions. It was easy to spot Kitty: she was the smiling lady with a flower bouquet and camera, ready to make her grandchildren's big moments even more special. Using her photos, captions and original poetry, Kitty created scrapbooks for her grandchildren and several other relatives. By marrying Dan, Kitty became a "Price Hill Catholic," and she devoted countless hours to community and church activities at Holy Family Church. Her volunteer work included over 20 years mentoring young women in Girl Scouting and the Marian Award; participating in the Holy Family prayer group; providing church babysitting; instructing CCD classes; and assisting with numerous church fundraisers. Her Catholic faith guided all that she did. Kitty worked in Delhi as a savings and loan teller for several years, retiring in 1988. After retirement, she volunteered with Dan at the Holy Family Food Pantry for many years, bringing energy, friendliness, and love to everything that she did. Other interests included cooking, sewing, and above all, spending time with her dear family. When Kitty suffered a major stroke in 2010, she became a model of patience and grace to those around her. She accepted this painful situation with strength and good humor. One example of her determination was that she still regularly attended Sunday Mass at Holy Family: friends and family pushed her wheelchair from her house to the church. When Dan passed away on February 24, Kitty's strength was an inspiration to all. She followed him only 23 days later, lovingly attended at home by her family. Thanks go to the staff of Good Samaritan Hospital and Comfort Keepers of NW Hamilton County for their loving care of Kitty and the rest of the family.
