Joyce Kathryn Molloy, nee Grothjan, a resident of Montgomery, Ohio, has died at age 74 leaving behind a legacy of love and dedication to family. She remains deeply loved by her husband Don Molloy, children, their spouses and grandchildren. She was a resounding success at what she valued most: being a wife and mother. Among her accomplishments are a 52 year marriage to Don and the raising of five children. Her devoted husband, Don Molloy, mother Helen Grothjan 99, daughters: Christine Carey (Ralph), Kathy Sebastian (Sam), sons: David (Sherry), Dan (Barb) and Jim (Laurie) Molloy survive her. She also leaves nineteen grandchildren and great grandchildren. Born in Cincinnati in 1936 to Howard and Helen Grothjan, she was raised in Golf Manor, attending Our Mother of Sorrows Church and school and then Regina High School. An accomplished artist, she studied commercial art at the Gebhardt Art School. Later, she was employed as a fashion illustrator for the H&S Pogue Co., where she drew women's and children's fashions featured in the store's advertising. Once married, she continued to study art and painted for pleasure. Her subjects were sometimes landscapes of places she visited, but were most often portraits of her children and grandchildren, which now adorn the homes of her loved ones. In addition to raising her family, for 40 years she worked along side her husband as secretary and treasurer for the family business, Molloy Roofing. She will be remembered as a fun-loving and selfless partner of unquestionable faith and character. Bridge and golf were amongst the many hobbies which allowed her to share laughter and fellowship with her friends and family. An avid traveler, Joyce and Don explored the United States, Europe, Mexico and China, For nearly 20 summers she served as Don's co-pilot extraordinaire as they made dozens of memorable RV trips with their grandchildren in tow. Her zest for life was seen as she and Don in later life took up the hobby of kayaking the waterways of Florida. She remained thankful to the end for her family and friends, as well as the rich and full life she led. Throughout her battle with ALS, she demonstrated her faith and amazing grace as she faced each debilitating challenge.
