Joyce "Googie" Burtschy, age 83, passed away January 16, 2016. Joyce was a proud graduate of Summit Country Day School, Hyde Park, and enjoyed serving as President of the Alumni Association for several years. After raising four children, Joyce followed in her beloved father's footsteps and managed Burtschy Flowers. As the third generation of florists, she worked hard every day doing what she loved. She was preceded in death by her parents Lawrence F. and Julia Burtschy; devoted mother of Julie Rebensdorf, Louis (Vikki) Rebensdorf, Holly Rebensdorf, Amy (Gary) Zeidenstein; loving grandmother, fondly known as Googie to her grandchildren; James Rebensdorf, Jenna (Michael) Mains, Chelsea and Connor Kuchik, and Hannah and Jacob Zeidenstein; great-grandmother to Emma and Cooper Mains; dear sister of Lawrence R. (Elisabeth) Burtschy and Mary Alice (William) Swenfurth. Visitation Friday, January 22 at the Gilligan Funeral Home, 8225 Montgomery Road from 5:00 8:00 p.m. Chapel Service to be held at Saint Mary Cemetery, 701 East Ross Avenue, Saturday, January 23 at 12:30 p.m. Donations may be directed to The Wounded Warrior Fund.
