Obituary

Joseph Michael Melia, 94, of Cincinnati, died peacefully May 6, 2018 Son of the late Thomas Melia and Marie (Kelly) of Cincinnati, brother of the late Thomas (Pauline), Martin (Jane), Mary (Joseph Kanaan), James (Virginia), Margaret (Jack Sandman), and John (Bea). He was the husband of the late Jean (Faust). He is survived by 8 children, Jeannine (Tom) Imhoff, Joseph (Mary Jo), Michael (Jeannette), Gregory (Deborah), Judy, Sharon (the late William Keeler), Denise (Eric Cone) and Sandra (Kevin Usleman), 18 grandchildren and 13 great-grandchildren. With just weeks since her passing, he is again with Jean, his beloved wife of 70 years. Dad volunteered for military service during World War II completing his service in the US Navy. He met our mother Jean earlier while working at Allis Chalmers. They exchanged letters during the war and married upon his return. He worked tirelessly over those early years to become successful, finishing his bachelor degree in engineering while holding a job and later working as a professional in the engineering field. He eventually broke out on his own, embracing the perils faced by an entrepreneur. He was deeply committed to building a business that would provide for his growing family. He later expanded his efforts, starting several enterprises in addition to his engineering practice that provided employment for many people over the years. Dad and Mom lived to see their family grow over more than a generation, achieving success in careers, relationships, and in life, observing and sharing with great pride musings about the people their children, and grandchildren have become. They delighted in the joy brought to them by their great-grandchildren. Dad and Mom often made donations to a number of charities for several years which they called Mission Control. If you feel moved, in lieu of flowers please feel free to send donations to the Catholic Relief Services, Catholic Charities of Southwest Ohio, Cincinnati Catholic Ministries Appeal or appropriate charitable organizations of your choice. The family would like to thank the Meadowbrook Care Center staff for their continual care and compassion. Family and friends may visit Tuesday, May 22, 2018, at Good Shepherd Catholic Church, 8815 East Kemper Road from 9:00 am until Mass of Christian Burial at 10:00 am. Interment will follow at Gate of Heaven Cemetery
