Obituary

Joseph (Jay) H. Clasgens II passed away peacefully Sunday, October 8, 2017. He is survived by his loving family, son Joseph H. Clasgens III (Nataly) of Portland, OR and Rancho Mirage, CA, and his daughters Marcia Anne Clasgens of Prescott, AZ, Truka Fisk (Jim), and Cynthia Clasgens of Sarasota, FL, his eight grandchildren, Marcy (Graham) and Jimmy (Sally) Fisk, Jeannette (Nate), Michael, and VJ Clasgens, and Emilie, Cate, and Seth Wilson, as well as his three great grandchildren, Harlie and Grayden Galloway and Olivia Singsen. Joseph was predeceased by his loving wife of 65 years, Patricia (Patsy) LeBlond, his son, Michael Anthony, and his sister, Marcia Clare Clasgens. He graduated from the Summit Country Day School, Walnut Hills High School, Cornell University, and the University of Cincinnati. He also graduated from the United States Naval Academy and served as a Lieutenant in the United States Navy. He was President of the J. & H. Clasgens Company, Clermont Woolen Mills, Woolen Manufacturers, a family business established in 1862 in New Richmond, Ohio which produced trigger finger mittens for the government, baseball yarn, and currently provides yarn to Native American weavers. He loved boats and boating and spent much time on the river. Jay was a keen follower of stock market trends. He was also interested in real estate ventures. He owned a number of farms which grew tobacco and soybeans. Jay was an avid traveler and with his wife, Patsy, he visited 139 countries on six continents. He and his wife established a scholarship fund at the Summit Country Day school to honor his son, Michael. Additionally, he supported many charities. Jay was a pious man whose faith was of great importance to him. He was a long time member of the University Club of Cincinnati, the Cornell Club, the Cincinnati Country Club, the Camargo Club, the Miami Boat Club, the Bankers Club, the Young Presidents Organization, the Ohio State Farm Bureau, the U.S. Woolen Manufacturers Association, the U.S. Knitting and Weaving Association, the Ohio Society, and was a Knight of Malta. Visitation will be 9:30-10:30 AM at Immaculate Heart of Mary Catholic Church, 7820 Beechmont Avenue, Cincinnati, OH 45255 on Saturday, October 14th followed by Mass of Christian Burial at 10:30 AM. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to IHM Church or the Sisters of Notre Dame de Namur, 701 E. Columbia Avenue, Cincinnati, OH 45215.
