Obituary

John A. Winter., passed away suddenly at Bayley Retirement Community (Delhi) on Saturday December 2, 2017. Age 89. Preceded in death by his beloved wife of 64 years, Dorothy V. (Schweitzer) Winter, both originally of Racine WI. Loving father of Stephen (Barbara) Winter, Martin (Vicki Dierig) Winter, Elisabeth (Todd) Rhein, Andrea (Edward) Albert, Stefanie (Rick) Badinghaus, Emily (David) Tupa. Devoted grandfather of Tatiana Inouye, John C. Winter, Kathleen Buck, Samuel & Simon Rhein, Rebecca Gavin, Natalie & Aaron Badinghaus, Ellie & Jillian Vittetoe, Grace & William Tupa. Great-grandfather of Abigail & Mika Inouye; Samantha & Patrick Winter; Wesley, Perianne & Iris Buck; Taylor & Aiden Gavin. Dear brother of the late Louis S. Winter, the late Margaret Moe, and Edward J. Winter M.D. of Olympia Fields IL. Dear brother-in-law of Marlene M. Winter of Oak Brook IL, Donald (Erica) Schweitzer and Doris Roscizewski of Racine WI, and the late Donna Dieter. John was a veteran of the Korean Conflict (1950-52), serving in the U.S. Army Artillery & earning two Bronze service stars. Graduated with an MS from the University of Wisconsin -Madison. Retired in 1996 following a 33-year career as a Microbiologist, Manager & Science Advisor with the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency in Cincinnati. A recognized expert in water quality assurance programs & procedures, he spoke at many international conferences on behalf of the World Health Organization. He was an avid gardener and loved trees & all of nature. Developed a keen interest in beekeeping after retirement, which became a passion for John. Long-time member and lector at St. Joseph (North Bend) and Our Lady of Lourdes Catholic Churches. With his wife Dorothy, volunteered for many years at Crayons to Computers. Served in various leadership capacities with the Boy Scouts of America. Served as volunteer with Three Rivers Area Ministries (TRAM) Food Pantry. Visitation Thursday December 7, 9:30 to 10:30 AM at Bayley Enrichment Center (990 Bayley Drive, Cincinnati, Ohio 45233), followed by Mass of Christian Burial at 10:30 AM. Interment at Old St. Joseph Cemetery (West 8th Street & Seton Ave). Memorials may be made to Crayons to Computers or Bayley.
