Obituary

John Michael "Sean" Connelly, 87, passed away peacefully on Wednesday August 30th, surrounded by his family. A graduate of Purcell High School, the University of Dayton, and Xavier University, he proudly served in the Ohio Air National Guard, and then the U.S. Air Force during the Korean War. After studying as a Marianist seminarian, Sean embarked on a 31 year career as a high school teacher of social studies and government for 26 years at the former Glen Este High School. He was a devout Catholic, a devoted husband, father and grandfather, always proud of his Irish heritage. He was preceded in death by his parents and his brother. Sean is survived by Patricia, his beloved wife of 54 years; his children Tom (Mary Beth) of Crestview Hills, KY; Michael (Debbie) of Springfield Township; Erin of Derby, England; Patrick of Madeira and his seven grandchildren. Visitation will be 5-8pm Monday September 4th at Gilligan Funeral Home (8225 Montgomery Road, Cincinnati, OH 45236), Mass of Christian burial will be a 1pm on Tuesday, September 5th at St. Gertrude Church in Madeira, followed by burial with military honors at Gate of Heaven Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, the family requests that memorials are made to The Diocesan Catholic Children's Home, 75 Orphanage Rd, Fort Mitchell, KY 41017 or The Dominican Foundation, 141 E. 65th Street, NYC, N.Y. 10065.
